How It All Started!
Updated: May 9, 2019
One of the questions I often get asked is how it all started. For me it actually started at a really young age. If you knew me at all growing up you would know that I was the kid obsessed with animals, I had animals instead of friends, while all the kids at school got together after school to play, I went home and played with my animals. I was the kid that walked my pony through the house and brought my goats inside my room. I trained my goats like you would train a dog and my 4-H pigs to follow me like dogs with candy for the livestock shows. I married my cats dressed in a wedding dress and tuxedo in the shed out back and did all sorts of other crazy things with my animals I cannot confess to because my parents may read this!
I grew up on the farm, both sides of my family were farmers and ranchers for generations and generations back so animals have always just been a way of life. We had all sorts of farm animals over the years, my dad and his wife still operate their own little farm and I will have my own little hobby farm someday soon, there is nothing better than farm life. I remember bottle feeding baby calves and piglets in my grandparents back room of their house, watching my dad deliver calves, piglets, foals and baby lambs. When I was about twelve my dad gave me my own goats and I was able to deliver my very own little baby goats that were the cutest things ever. For me there is nothing better than watching baby animals come into the world.
Growing up my Grandpa Barney bred Dalmatians and Australian Shepherds I remember being with him in his little whelping shed he built out back delivering puppies and I would walk up to his house after school almost every day to play with them. As I got older my dad also started breeding and raising miniature Australian Shepherds. So I have been around dog breeding pretty much my whole life, I started breeding and raising my own dogs and puppies about 13 years ago.
We didn't start out breeding Goldendoodles though, we got our first Goldendoodle about six years ago due to my son Baylor having asthma and allergies. We instantly fell in love with the breed and their amazing temperament and knew it was the perfect fit for our family. Since then we have added lots of others to the family.
Last year I quit my job of 12 years where I worked managing a law firm, I loved my job and the people I worked with but knew that it wasn't my true love and I chose to breed, raise and train dogs and puppies full time. It really is my dream job, I often tell people I am living my dream and it is true, there is nothing else I would rather be doing with my life right now. Not only for myself, but also for my family. This is where I am meant to be and what I am meant to be doing. My kids are amazing and have the same love and passion for what I do which makes it even more fun and something that we are able to really enjoy and connect as a family over.
Watching my kids learn life lessons, hard work and love on these babies is one of my greatest joys and a big part of my why! I also have to thank my amazing hubby for always putting up with his crazy animal obsessed wifey, and for letting me chase my crazy dreams.
Whatever you decide to do in life, make sure it makes you happy! If your not living your dream life, start today to find a way to make it happen, life is too short to not love what your doing.
